How to Solve Two Common Issue for Yi Home Camera(Pairing & App Connecting)
If you are now suffering from any App downloading/pairing/connecting failures related issues with Yi Home Camera, this article is a best solution summary for you.
Currently, there are two most common issues:
1. HW and App versions mismatch
2. Camera firmware is too old
Preparation Work:
Skip this if you have successful experience to pair before
1. Make sure your App version is up to date
2. Make sure your Wi-Fi SSID and password is correct and there is no any other security related settings on your router, such as:

No static IP address assignment
No MAC address filter

3. 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is supported only.
ISSUE 1: Product and App version mismatch
1. Identify the product version of your camera
Please check the first 4 characters on the back of the camera as below figure ,

if the format is [0~9][0~9][A~Z][A~Z], the 3rd and 4th characters standard for the country code (case insensitive):
CN : Chinese Version
US / TW /KR/other Country Code: International Version

3. All other format strings : Chinese Version
Please be aware of that:
Chinese version is to be used in China mainland only.
International version is to be used in US/TW/KR only.

2. Install the matching App
You have to install the correct App, otherwise the camera can be never paired.
Currently we have official selling channels in CN/US/KR/TW only, in any other countries/areas, you can’t find this App in your local Google Play or App Store. Error message may be nothing/this App is not available in your market/your device is not support this App/etc.

ISSUE 2: Camera firmware is too old to pair
We always suggest customers to keep the camera firmware version update to date to get better product performance.If you have already prepared the matching Camera and App, but still failed in camera pairing or you found the camera working improperly even after reset.In most case, you can fix it via updating the camera firmware manually.

1. Download the latest version of firmware

Chinese Version : Download Link
International Version : Download Link (US Version)

2. Do manually update following the instruction.
Note: the firmware version must match your camera version. You can flash a Chinese version camera with any other version of firmware and power-on it, but it can never be paired.

Impressive clarity

I’m very impressed by the quality of the video this camera has. We got the YI Dome camera as a gift mainly to use as a baby monitor. Impressed how super easy it is to setup. No instruction manual but I assumed the app would guide me. However other non-tech savvy people may have issues knowing how to get started. When I looked up the price to order another for the baby’s room I couldn’t believe how affordable this camera was. I paid $165 for a baby monitor and the quality of the video isn’t as clear or colorful as the YI Dome. Very happy with this product. I haven’t tried the night vision yet but noticed the intercom is pretty loud & clear. I noticed a lag in the video by a few seconds and same with the audio. However I’m just using this for the baby so I can watch him with our babysitter while I’m at work. This puts my mind at ease. I’m already ordering more cameras for the home as we have a new baby. I’ve been meaning to also get a new action camera & after seeing the easy setup & quality of the YI Dome, I look forward to trying the YI 4K Action Camera as well. Looks like I’m a new YI Fan.

Almost great..getting better

I bought a 4-camera system and it installed and connected very easy. The instructions on connecting to the cloud service were not quite as clear and I mistakenly subscribed 3 times. Apple refunded the last 2 subscriptions and I was able to successfully connect all 4 cameras to one subscription for cloud service. Of course, cloud service is optional. After my 1st month service expired, I could not renew for a second month. Not sure why. Apple says all is fine on their and and they claimed it was a developer issue.
I’ve sent several emails to the developer with no response. The cameras do work well and the picture and sound are great. I wish the iOS app would work as described. Still waiting to see if this gets worked out.
Update: Subscription issue resolved. All cameras working as advertised. Most reliable wireless cameras I’ve used and the price is unbeatable. Suggestions the the developer include: 1) allow for landscape view by turning the phone to the right instead of only to the left. The volume buttons on the phone are on the left so landscape view to the left leaves the buttons inaccessible. 2) consider allowing for a 4-camera view on the screen. Perhaps this could be at least an option on the iPad. The YI app is not optimized for the iPad and looks very bad. Just my suggestions for future development.

Peace of mind for low cost

I’m glad I have these. They have really Lear picture quality and are so easy to set up. The night vision is even really good. I like that I don’t have batteries to replace or recharge. The app has a good amount of setting features so you can customize the sensitivity, the microphone and speaker functions, set up times for the motion alerts to be on/off, etc. It also allows me to share my cameras so that other family members can view live footage and get alerts if you give permission.
I wish the motion alerts were longer than 6 seconds. The motion alerts definitely work great (and sometimes are too sensitive, but that’s adjustable) as they pick up headlights in the street that shine in my front window, my pets entering a room, a squirrel on my deck, etc. We recently added micro SD cards to our cameras and that allows us to go back and review a timeframe where I want to see more than a 6 second clip.
I have one camera facing out a window and it works great during the day. However, at night, the glare from inside decreases picture clarity significantly and makes the motion alerts sorta pointless since it detects all the movement inside the room instead of outside in the yard. It might be better to buy an outdoor camera if that’s what you plan to use it for.
